AS A PROFESSOR
Dr. Doty has been on the faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine since 1997 in the Neurosurgery Department as a professor and more recently as an adjunct professor. He is also the founder and director of the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) of which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor. Most recently, his academic focus is on meditation, compassion, and self-compassion for which he has lectured throughout the world.
AS A NEUROSURGEON
Dr. Doty throughout his career has had a broad interest in the field of neurosurgery and has been a pioneer in the development and use of the CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery device. Additionally, he is trained as a paediatric neurosurgeon and is an expert in the field of minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. He has published extensively in these areas. Dr. Doty is also editor of the textbook, “Surgical Disorders of the Sacrum”. Presently, Dr. Doty is on sabbatical from his neurosurgical practice.
AS A NEUROSCIENTIST
Dr. Doty for the last several years has focused on the study of the neural bases compassion and the value proposition of being compassionate in regard to mental and physiologic health, as well as longevity. He works has been published in a large number of peer-reviewed academic journals. He is the senior editor of the Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science.
AS AN AUTHOR
Dr. Doty is the author of the NY Times and international bestselling author of “Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon’s Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart which has been translated into almost 40 languages and editions. His book was used by the K-Pop music sensation, BTS, as the basis for their third album, “Love Yourself: Tear” in which there is a song called, “Magic Shop”. His new book, “Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How It Changes Everything will be published in the fall of 2022.
AS A PHILANTHROPIST
Dr. Doty has supported health clinics around the world and programs for the disabled, as well as programs for teens and adolescents affected by AIDS/HIV. He has supported research programs at a number of universities and has endowed chairs at multiple universities.

Dr. Doty has participated in numerous lectures and has several TEDs that are among the most shared and viewed: - How compassion can save the word - Hacking your brain for happiness - The science of compassion He has already lectured and interviewed personalities such as the Dalai Lama, Thupten Jimpa, Thich Nhat Hanh, among others.
